Happy Birthday to Seth

The Big 5

Today Seth celebrated the big number 5 birthday! Where does the time go, it seems like only yesterday we were racing to the birth center for his speedy arrival! We had a camping theme this year, and he got lots of good loot! Below are some pics of the day:

Eck!

Our whole house is sick, and it stinks! Seth has a chest cold, I have a sinus infection and Adam has strep. There are a lot of yucky tissues and phlegm around here! Hopefully, we will all be well by the time Santa comes!

Happy Halloween Part II

Here are some pics from the Halloween parade in NSB and from trick or treating tonight. Seth's costume was quite popular, I def think it was a winner!

Here is Seth at the parade and he and I exiting the stage from the costume contest:

Here is Seth right before and during trick or treating:

And Adam's kick ass idea for giving out candy while we were gone:

Hope everyone had a spooky and safe time!

5 Little Pumpkins

Seth had a great time at his Halloween parade at school today. Here is a pic of him in his costume:

After the parade his class did a poem recitation, he had to loose his costume though, so as not to injur the surrounding children! We will post some pics after the Halloween parade tomorrow in NSB and before trick or treating on Sunday.

Hot Dog Ice Cream?

Apparently Publix needs to revisit the recipe for their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream, as Seth is under the impression that the chunks of cookie dough are actually "little hot dogs". He was quite disgruntled when I gave him ice cream today without them!

Fall Camping

We did some "camping" last night. Our version of camping is sleeping outside in the tent and coming inside to drink coffee and pee. It was awful chilly last night, when we came in at 7:00 this morning it was only 56 outside. BUUURRRR! Here are a few pics of our adventure:

All set up waiting for dark:

The Fall Garden

Our Fall garden is coming along quite nicely. The cabbages, kale and tomatillos are in bloom, but the spinach and radishes have yet to make an appearance. We also put in a snazzy new apple tree that Seth picked out. Supposedly it produces 3 different kinds of apples! There is general skepticism about this actually happening, but we shall see. Here are a few pics:

World Cultures Day

Seth had World Cultures Day at school today, he is second from the left in the video. As you can see, he is fine with the speaking part, but not so much for dancing!

Chest Lessons

Seth was very excited to give Aunt Alex "Chest" lessons. Alex says he was a worthy opponent, as they had a draw.

A Very Scary Awful Ant

Seth came running into the living room to tell us there was a "very scary awful ant" in his bedroom. Adam went to investigate, and I then heard furniture moving and toilet flushing, so I went to inspect this monster ant. Turns out a very scary awful ant is really just an ordinary sized cockroach. Ewww.

Fall is in the Air

Well in Florida, not really. But summer has ravaged the garden, the birds and squirrels have feasted on my poor sunflowers and ripped off most of their heads, and the summer sun has fried the tomatoes and watermelon plants, so it was time to sow under the summer garden and replant for the fall. I spent the morning doing so, and now we are ready for Fall veggies! We put in tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, kale, squash, cucumbers and relocated the sole cauliflower that survived the summer sun. Our berries and grapes survived the heat, so they continue to prosper, hopefully they will survive the brutal Orlando Winter (teehee) and flower in the spring.

School Daze

Can you believe it is time for school again already?! Where did the summer go? Seth was very excited this morning to start Pre-K, he was quite impressed when we got to school and "everyone was wearing his shirt".

The Little Bartender

Seth has become quite the little barkeep. He helped Adam put all the beer in a cooler for the Luau, and covered it with ice. A few hours later Adam asked him to get him a beer out of the cooler. "Green (Yingling) or Blue (Mic Ultra) beer, daddy," he asked? Blue, Adam tells him. "You've got it," he replies. Next he will need a tip jar :)

The Next Bobby Fisher

Adam has introduced Seth to Chess, and I am pretty sure he is already better at it than I am. They have been playing on the computer, and as far as Seth is concerned he is the "CHAMPION" no matter if he wins or loses. I hope he never tires of playing anything, win or lose!

Help! Anyone?

Nothing gets you out of bed quicker that shouts coming from the baby monitor. Last night we hear, "Help! Help! Anyone?" So, we both go to see what's up, and find Seth with his head under 2 blankets in bed. "What's wrong?", I ask. "I'm sweaty", he says. Well yeah, if you sleep in a blanket cave, you would be!

I Only Eat Healthy Foods

As we were all sitting in the pool yesterday eating Creamsicles, and Seth looked at us and said, "Mmmmm, I only eat healthy foods." Thank Heavens Creamsicles count as healthy, maybe that means chicken fingers and lemonheads do too!

This Is The Life

Seth has been doing quite well at his swim lessons, he can already swim all the way across the pool underwater! He is very fond of goggles, because as he told Miss Jill, "I don't like getting my eyes wet." So we bought him a pair to use in the pool at home. Friday night, he was sitting on the couch covered in his blanket and watching television with his goggles on, he looked at me and said, "Mommy, this is the life." He has no idea!

Ta-Dah!

Okay, so Seth has discovered his penis. I mean, he always knew it was there, but as of late his foreskin has started retracting and he has actually been able to see it. He informed me one day a few weeks ago that "there was something in his wiener". When I asked him what, he pulled back the foreskin and showed me. I had to explain THAT was his wiener, it was quite the discussion, I assure you.

So, the other day it was time to get ready for school, so I told him to go get undressed and put his jams in the hamper and come back to me and I would help him get dressed. He dashes off, comes back and does his mandatory nude lap around the house, then comes running up to me (still naked, of course). He says, "Mommy, Mommy, look." Grabs his penis and pops it out of the foreskin, and says "TA DA"! Ta-da indeed! Boys!

Happy Mother's Day

Check out the pics of before and after of my Mother's Day gift! Forgive the shine and puffyness, and try to disregard the stray lines (the artist didn't use them for the final product but didn't want to torture me by scrubbing them off), but I am quite happy with the outcome! You can click on each pic to make them bigger and see the details a little better.

Hamster Boy

This is probably super bad parenting, but we went to the fair this past weekend and there was a big pool full of giant inflatable bubbles you could put your child in. We put Seth in one, and he proceeded to crawl around like a maniac, it was hilarious! I am so sorry I did not have the camera, the sight of our little hamster boy was the best! He also liked the Ferris wheel, which was terrifying for me, it did not boost my confidence when we got to the top and saw the sign warning you that it was 125 feet to the ground either. Yikes!

Living on Sesame Street

Since Matt is moving out soon, now we can have nice things in the house :) We fancied up the bathroom he and Seth share with a new shower curtain and rug. About an hour after I finished in there, Seth went in and yelled, "Mommy, Wicky Rabbit will LOVE his new bathroom". I explained to him that Wicky Rabbit will be moving to his own house soon, so it is really Seth's bathroom now. He nodded, and went back about his business. About 3 hours later he went in again and yells, "Mommy, I LOVE MY new bathroom, my rug looks like Big Bird". I guess that's good?
Today our washing machine finally died, so Seth and I went to examine one at the store before we bought it online. Once we were there, he informed me that we needed to look at ALL of the washers so "we didn't miss anything". He then proceeded to open every one and inspect it, he also informed me which ones were good (the festive colored ones) and which were not (the ones that had no buttons or drawers at Seth level). Then we made a jaunt to Target to get a new rug for our bathroom, and when I asked him if he liked the snappy new red rug I picked, Seth's reply was "It's nice, it looks like Elmo, when we get home I will draw an Elmo face on it". Um, pass, but thanks! That boy!

Mom is Boring

Now that Matt has his own digs and Adam has been working closes, Mommy is not nearly exciting enough for Seth. On Sunday while Adam was at work and Matt was working on his new place, round about 4:00pm Seth said to me," Mommy, when is someone getting here?" Apparently I am no fun after a few days of mostly just mom. Thanks!

Music for Mommy & Seth

Seth and I were skipping around on You Tube, and found a video we both liked. Seth said, "Mommy, it's that guy who sings in our car, but he's with Elmo!" Good ear, kid :)

Let the Harvest Begin!

We have already had a fruitful year from the garden! We have pulled about 6 carrots, 6 strawberries, a handful of radishes and at least 20 cherry tomatoes (those are hard to count, Seth eats them right off the plant). Here is a pic of a harvest: I am especially excited that our corn has started coming up, maybe we will have better luck with it this year, last year it looked beautiful and then the Africa hot Summer started cooking it in the husks. We moved it to a less sunny spot, so maybe we will be able to eat some of it this year! Here is a pic of Seth enjoying some of the goodies!

Pillow Talk

Seth wakes up most mornings before us, and comes to get in bed and snuggle. It is a lovely way to start the day, but even more charming when it starts like this:

S: Daddy, are you feeling better?
A: Yes buddy, I'm feeling better.
S: Mommy, are you feeling better?
M: Yes Seth, I feel a little better.
S: I'm glad, I'm feeling very good today. (Pause) I love you, I love Mommy and Daddy in my heart, in my rainbow colored heart.

sigh :)

So not fun

So, you know that feeling when your head aches and there is so much pressure in your head you think your eyes might actually bulge out and you will forever look like Roger Rabbit? Yeah, that's where I'm at.

Happy Easter!

The Easter bunny came and left Seth all kinds of goodies. Seth noticed that the Easter Bunny shops at the same grocery store that we do, what are the odds? All of the hidden eggs were found, and by 9am sugar induced laps were being run. We figure we have 3 hours before a total sugar coma kicks in and either Seth crashes or has a meltdown. Lets hope for the former, but totally anticipate the latter. Here is a video of the egg hunt and treat eating. Hope everyone had a happy bunny day!

Does it make you a bad mom if you laugh like hell when your 4 year old runs smack into a sliding glass door at 6am?

Spring Is In The Air

While Seth is on Spring Break we have visited the beach and Kennedy Space Center, and last night we "camped" in the backyard (okay, so we toasted marshmallows and slept in the tent, then came inside to pee and drink coffee). This morning we worked on the garden, and finished our planting for this year. We have 15 strawberries, an arugala, a cauliflower, some sweet corn, a cherry tomato, radishes, carrots, a muscadine grape, a cantelope and a watermelon. All of our herbs from last year are still with us (mint, chives, parsley), so we are looking at a good harvest this year! Seth's pear tree has started sprouting flowers for the first time since we planted it when he was born, our magnolia that we planted last year has 2 flowers already (see above for the first bloom of the year), and our grapefruit and lime trees are looking lovely! When we start to sprout goodies I will post some pics, can't wait!
