Chicago Marathon, Day Three

We survived another one!!  Marathon No .2 in the books!

What a great race, running through 29 neighborhoods in a GREAT town!  Going over the Chicago River 6 times, passing Trump & Willis Tower, going past Lincoln Park Zoo and Chinatown, with tons of screaming supporters all the way!  Chicago sure knows how to show the love!

Our times were not quite what we wanted them to be, but we both agree we feel a little less sore after this one than the last. We were able to walk all the way back to the hotel at least, which is more than I can say from the looks of some people.  My heart went out to the poor woman on her hands and knees vomiting at the 26 mile sign.  We were so sorry we didn't realize until after the race that our fellow runner pal Rich Garand (who kicked our butts) was also here running the race!

Adam was preparing for another kind of marathon.

Back to the hotel for an excellent dinner at Lockwood Restaurant, where we had the most delicious dinner, all the sweeter with those beautiful medals around our necks!

After dinner, we had to make the walk down the lobby to Potter's, the hotel lounge named for Potter Palmer, the hotel founder.  Adam of course had to have their signature Bloody Mary.  I went for the Grand Monaco (Champagne with Peach Raspberry Grand Marnier)
That Bloody Mary had a salami/pepperoni/cheese garnish
Back to the room for a much needed great nights sleep, heading back to Orlando in the morning!

Chicago Marathon, Day Two

Started the day with a walk to the Artist's Cafe inside the Art Institute, and a delicious breakfast.  Can you say Alaskan pancakes?

Pancakes with soft serve?  Sign me up!
Then off to McCormick Place and the Expo!  It was a really nice walk from the hotel, past Grant Park about 3 miles, a good stretch for tomorrow!

Less than 24 hours to race time!
After a day of collecting our bibs and shirts, and strolling through all of the booths, on our walk back we saw the 26 mile sign!  What do you bet we won't look this happy at this point tomorrow?

Back to the hotel to get ready for dinner at Berghoff's, a great German restaurant, just around the corner from our hotel.
First Liquor license after prohibition?  Quality Place!
A yummy dinner of schnitzel and ox joints (totally not kidding), excellent bread and very fine cocktails, back to the hotel for an early night, gonna be up bright and early tomorrow!

Chicago Marathon, Here We Come!! Day One

Chi town here we come, for the big race!  We're super excited!!  Starting out the trip flying first class, always nice!
Ahh, fancy cocktails!

How nice to get a personalized greeting, glad Chicago is glad to see us!

Delta managed to loose one of our suitcases, but clearly when you fly first class they make an effort to find it on the quick.  Met Nana and Aunt Sue at the airport, and went out for yummy Chicago pizza!  Then off to our beautiful hotel, the historic Palmer House.  It was once the biggest hotel in the world, but we picked it because it is only a mile from the finish line!

Now THAT'S a Lobby
Thankfully, our suitcase arrived in time for us to put on proper clothing for dinner, we dont's want to look like hicks in the big city!  What a lovely time we had at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater, we saw "Ride the Cyclone", an excellent production!
Can't miss that sign!

Dinner at Riva at Navy Pier, then back to the hotel for a good nights sleep, Expo tomorrow!!

Hi!
We rescued River from Lotsa Love Pet Rescue at Petsmart.  She is a 2 year old Chihuahua, and super cute!  Brooks seems to enjoy having a new lady friend, its tiny dog land here at Casa de Waters now!!

Attack Raccoon!!

Holy crap, Adam was attacked by a raccoon in our driveway!  He took Brooks out last night, and a GIANT monster raccoon attacked him!  After a 2 hour stint in the hospital, and a tetanus and rabies shot, he is good to go, but good grief, a raccoon?!
